Help a new chum

Hi and sorry to bug you (how very Japanese of me)

I’m moving from Sydney to Canberra with my hubby (who I met on JET). He will be studying at ANU and I will be teaching Japanese at the Wanniassa School. We’re currently in the States and we will have exactly 2 weeks when we return to Australia to find somewhere to live before I start my new job. Any advice on places to live would be much appreciated as we know nothing about the area. We have one car between us so we require somewhere close to public transport.

Thanks in advance and I look forward to meeting as many JETAA peeps as I can at the next event.

DEPARTURES
(Okuribito) Dir: Yôjirô Takita, Japan, 2008, 130 mins, 35mm, (M)
Unemployed orchestral musician Daigo discovers he is the only candidate for a well-paid job as an ‘encoffiner’: one who ceremonially prepares the dead for cremation. In need of the money, but too embarrassed to tell his wife, he slowly learns the trade from aging boss Sasaki, and with time comes to find grace in his role in helping the living to say goodbye to the dead. The Japanese Six Feet Under and 2009 Best Foreign Film Oscar winner, in its Canberra-premiere season.

O-Shaberikai starts again in February 2010

The next O-Shaberikai will be held on Wednesday, 3 February 2010 at the Holy Grail in Civic from 5.30pm onwards. Please do come along if you can.

For those who don’t know, the O-Shaberikai is a very informal monthly get-together where Japanese people staying in Canberra can meet Australians who have some interest in Japan. As it is informal, you’re not bound by time constraints so turning up late or leaving early is not a problem at all.

Shinnenkai

The JETAA Shinenkai will be held on Friday, 5 February 2010 at Coo Izakaya in Civic.

If you’d like to come along please let Andrea know at:
