April Oshaberikai, Wed, 2 Apr

Oshaberikai_Sushi_banner

Our April Oshaberikai and get together will be at Iori Plus, on Wednesday, 2nd April from 6:00pm.

If you can’t speak Japanese come along anyway, we all speak English too!

For those who haven’t been before here’s how it works: You only pay for what you eat/drink. JETAA Canberra provides the renkon chips and edamame.

If you have to leave early, just find your friendly JETAA officer and settle up with them. Don’t forget to tell them what you ordered so we can check your order off the bill. We usually have change so you can pay for drinks as you go, but small bills and coins are always welcome!

-=-=-=-
SPECIAL BANQUET – if you came along to our combined dinner with AJS and CJC earlier in the month you would have had the amazing IORI Plus banquet. The half price offer is still on so you can get a MEGA multi course (13 I believe) dinner for only $30/person! NB, you get renkon and edamame as part of the meal 😉

If you want to order a banquet, you MUST RSVP for a booking. This is because the chefs prepare some of the meals in advance on the night so they can all arrive at the right time. If you are not sure if you are able to come, there are tonnes of other tasty affordable options on the menu

Where: 1st Floor Deakin Soccer Club, 3 Grose Street, Deakin, 2600
Date Wednesday, April 2nd
Time From 6:00pm
Cost $30 for the banquet

General Meeting, Fri, 11 April

Empty Conference Room

JETAA Canberra is holding a General Meeting to discuss ongoing issues stemming from the election of the current executive committee at our Annual General Meeting on the 11th September 2013.

We will be discussing the results of that election and its outcome. We will also be voting on how these issues should be resolved, and how JETAA Canberra can move forward for the rest of 2014.

All members are requested to attend and make their voices heard. If you are unsure if you are a member but have been attending events, please come as this meeting seeks to clarify several outstanding issues regarding not only membership but the future running of JETAA Canberra.

The current Executive Committee is in a position to make some major decisions about JETAA Canberra, and as a result are seeking input from the membership as to how we should proceed.

We will also be discussing some possible changes to the current charter. These changes could affect how future membership is decided, voting rights and process and, potentially, our level of funding from CLAIR.

We need your help and input!

If you are unable to attend, but wish to vote, please notify JETAA Canberra’s Vice President/Secretary, Adam Gastineau, at vice.president@jetaacanberra.org and indicate who will have your proxy at the meeting. Your proxy notification must be in writing and should include your name, who you are nominating as your proxy and the date of the meeting.

Please note, all proxies (that is, who will be voting on your behalf, not what you intend on voting) must be submitted to the Vice President/Secretary at least 24 hours prior to the meeting to be accepted. This is required for all votes to be in accordance with the JETAA Charter (Section 4, specifically 4.24-4.29)

You can view or download a copy of the Charter from the JETAA Canberra website:

http://jetaacanberra.org/_pdf/Rules_of_JETAA_Canberra_at_Incorporation.pdf

The meeting will also be audio recorded to ensure an accurate record of the discussion and results of any votes taken. Copies of the recording will be made available after the meeting up on written request to the Vice President/Secretary.

Event JETAA General Meeting
Date Friday, 11 April 2014
Where Civic Library, Mezzanine Level meeting room

Tsunami memorial service – Sat, 15 Mar

Tsuanami_memorial_banner3

Three years have passed since Japan was devastated by a magnitude 9 earthquake and tsunami that struck the Tohoku and northern Kanto regions. Its effects have dealt a massive psychological blow to Japan, as  well imposing an enormous physical and human cost.

Each year concerned Canberrans, friends of Japan and members of the Japanese community gather in the Canberra-Nara Peace Park to remember the victims and to show their support for those who are recovering from the disaster. This year’s service will be held on 15 March.

Lighting a candle at the service will be an opportunity to send our prayers and thoughts to the victims and the displaced, and at this gathering, we will renew our pledge to support the survivors into the future.

Where: Canberra-Nara Park, Lennox Gardens, Flynn Drive Yarralumla
Date Saturday, 15th March 2014
