Canberra JETAA Inc E-mail for Week Ending 25 June 2010

This is the first weekly e-mail I am attempting in the new role of President of Canberra JETAA. For those who don’t know, my name is Adam Gastineau and I will be serving as president in the coming year. A huge thank you to Murray for his 5 years of leadership, and a thank you as well to Nicola et al for helping to bring me up to speed. I look forward to meeting you all at our next event, so lets get to it!

Canberra JETAA Inc E-mail for Week Ending 11 April 2010

Thank you to everyone who attended the AGM last Saturday. We had a really good turn-out and it looks like the new committee will be a blend of youth and experience that should guide JETAA into a very successful 2010-11.

The new President, Adam Gastineau, is unable to take over the weekly e-mail immediately but rest assured as soon as his exams are over he will take up his office with the dignity and gravitas you have come to expect from the executive arm of Canberra JETAA Inc. Stand by for some pretty good events – more on that once the 2010-11 calendar is finalised.

Finally, I would like to thank all members and friends of JETAA for their support over the last three years of my presidency (and the two years before that as Treasurer) and encourage everyone to support the upcoming JETAA events.

News from Japan

As a new Prime Minster takes office, Japan Honda has to deal with labour problems (fancy being upset that Japanese employees make up to 50 times more than the locals) in their offshore plant;

Japan news isn’t all bad, easily-infulenced young Japanese men are moving away from the girly man look and are embracing the ‘ora ora’ look. The ‘ora ora’ key words are outlaw and tough guy – just the thing to get one through tough economic times.

JETAACanberra Important notice – JETAA AGM this Saturday

Hello everyone,

As you know, this Saturday we will hold the Canberra JETAA Inc Annual General Meeting.

The meeting will be held at the outgoing Presidential Palace in Giralang and a sushi luncheon will be supplied by JETAA.

Currently there are not enough confirmed attendees to for a quorum, let alone to fill all elected positions.

Without enough ex-JETs willing to ‘step up’ and pay a little back to the programme that gave us all the opportunity to experience Japan through the JET Programme JETAA’s ability to carry out our activities may be seriously impaired. Currently, these activities include:

  • Orientation for departing JETs
  • Promotion and support of the JET Programme
  • Participation in Canberra-Nara Candle Festival
  • Annual Australia-Japan trivia night
  • Annual field trip
  • Monthly O-Shaberikai
  • Participation in activities organised by other members of Canberra’s Japan and Japan-interest community
  • Other social or cultural (or both) activities as decided my JETAA members

Positions available are:

  • President
  • Vice President
  • Treasurer
  • Social Function Coordinator (multiple positions available)
  • Orientation Coordinator
  • Webmaster

If you are able to attend please e-mail Nicola (nicola_sav) or Murray (woodford_murray) or both by COB Wednesday, 2 June 2010.

Thank you.

Murray

Canberra JETAA Inc President
